Do I have a case?

Injured victims often wonder "do I have a case?"  Typically, there is no simple answer to the question.  Every case is different and presents its own unique set of obstacles.  Often, the effective evaluation of a case requires an open and creative mind in order to recognize its true potential.  At The Law Offices of Garrett V. Williams, we take pride in carefully evaluating every case that we encounter, and then aggressively pursuing those that we feel are meritorious, even if they are somewhat out of the ordinary and/or difficult.  If you have been injured under unusual circumstances and wonder whether you have a viable case, please call Mr. Williams today at 202.776.0648 for a free evaluation.  Over the years, he has handled some rather unusual and difficult cases with exceptional results.  Here are just a few:

Inadequate Security:  Joe Hero* was a patron at a popular convenience/drug store located in Prince George's County, Maryland when he was injured under very unusual circumstances.  As he waited in the check-out line with a bottle of bleach in his hand, the individual in front of him brandished a hand gun and held-up the check-out person.  In an effort to save the day, Mr. Hero hit the assailant over the head with the bottle of bleach.  Unfortunately, this resulted in Mr. Hero receiving a gun shot wound to the abdomen and losing quite a bit of blood.  Mr. Hero underwent surgery, a long recovery and suffered a great deal of pain, suffering, medical bills and wage loss.  In an effort to obtain help, Mr. Hero went to various lawyers for whom he had seen advertisements on television.  They all told him the same thing:  that his case was either too difficult or worthless.  None of them would take his case.  He later learned through word of mouth of attorney Garrett V. Williams.  Mr. Williams met with Mr. Hero, took his case, and immediately began an investigation.  The store contended that Mr. Hero had negligently caused his injury by attacking the assailant.  The store also felt that Mr Hero had assumed the risk of injury by taking matters into his own hands.  However, Mr. Williams' investigation revealed that the store had actually cut-back on its security efforts in a desire to maximize its profits, thereby placing its patrons at risk.  After arguing these facts to the store's insurance company, Mr. Williams was able to negotiate a substantial settlement for Mr. Hero without even filing a lawsuit.

Defective Amusement Product:  Dan Climber* was a patron at a popular amusement establishment in Maryland when he was injured under rather unusual circumstances.  He was playing on the establishment's indoor revolving climbing wall, a machine designed to safely simulate the thrill of climbing a mountain.  The machine was operated in such a way as to increase in difficulty until the patron fell from the wall onto a shock-absorbing safety pad below.  Unfortunately, when Dan Climber fell to the safety pad, he broke his ankle.  He ended-up undergoing surgery that required the placement of metal screws and hardware in the ankle bones to hold them together.  Obviously, the injury was a very painful one that required a great deal of medical expense, rehabilitation and inconvenience.  Mr. Climber's quality of life suffered, as he was unable to do the things he most enjoyed, like playing with his two young boys.  Mr. Climber came to Garrett Williams for help.  Mr. Williams conducted an investigation and hired engineering experts to assist him in the case.  Ultimately Mr. Williams filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer of the climbing machine and the amusement establishment.  They blamed the injury on Mr. Climber and contended that he was contributorily negligent and/or assumed the risk of injury.  During the litigation, Mr. Williams discovered that the same machine in the same establishment had injured another patron in the past - resulting in a broken ankle.  The case never went to trial and resulted in a healthy six-figure settlement for Mr. Climber.

At The Law Offices of Garrett V. Williams, we maximize results and exceed expectations.
